Press Release on Everest History Rewritten: 32 Summits for Kami Rita, 11 for Lakpa Sherpa

The Department of Tourism hereby informs that Nepali mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa successfully summited Mount Everest on 17 May 2026 at 10:12 a.m., marking his 32nd successful ascent of the world’s highest peak and extending his own world record.

Similarly, veteran female mountaineer Lakpa Sherpa summited Mount Everest at 9:30 a.m. on the same day, achieving her 11th successful ascent and holding the record for the highest number of ascents by a female climber.

As per information received from the field office at Everest Base Camp, both ascents were completed during the Spring 2026 climbing season under respective expedition arrangements.

The Department of Tourism extends congratulations to both climbers on this historic achievement.
